Inside Slot Design: How Just Slots Turns Sketches into Spins

Casinos.com sat down with Josué Agüero, game producer and product owner at Just Slots, to uncover how modern slot games make the leap from early sketches to live spins on the reels.

Agüero described his role as the glue that holds every stage of development together, moving between concept sketches, art direction, math modeling, and QA to ensure a seamless player experience. “A game producer basically is the one… that glues and holds everything together at the end of the day,” he said.

Ideas at Just Slots come from trending concepts, internal brainstorming, and player feedback, with artists and designers exploring multiple creative routes before a final look is chosen. Agüero emphasized the need for balance: speed to market matters, but never at the expense of quality.

When asked about what keeps players engaged, he pointed to storytelling, pacing, and surprise moments. “It needs to tell a story. It needs to bring something unique, that basically makes the player continue spinning and enjoying the game,” he explained.

Agüero also reflected on Shogun Skylord, his first major release with Just Slots, calling it a milestone that helped shape how the studio approaches development today. He noted that while AI is becoming a tool in the creative pipeline, it still lacks the “something” that human craft provides.
